Evolving the Microsoft Advertising API Platform
At Microsoft Advertising, we’re continuing to invest in a modern and scalable API platform that supports faster innovation and long-term growth. Since introducing the Microsoft Advertising REST API in 2024, we’re continuing our transition from the legacy SOAP API to REST as the foundation for future Microsoft Advertising API development.
What’s changing
We’re standardizing REST APIs as the foundation for future Microsoft Advertising API development.
- Starting with this announcement, customers and partners have 6 months to transition from SOAP to REST before all new features and enhancements become available only through the REST API on October 1, 2026.
NOTE: Existing SOAP-based integrations will continue to run during this period, with no immediate impact to current API integrations.
- The SOAP API will be fully deprecated on January 31, 2027.
Migrating to REST ensures continued access to future Microsoft Advertising API innovations and capabilities, so now is the time to begin planning and validating your migration approach.
Why REST APIs
The Microsoft Advertising REST API is designed to support a more modern, scalable, and consistent integration experience. This includes access to new and future API features, stronger SDK support, standard HTTP/JSON architecture, easier integration and debugging, and broader programming language support.
Getting started with migration
Choose the path that best fits your implementation:
- SDK users: Use the SDK migration documentation to simplify your move from SOAP to REST and ensure you stay aligned with future API updates.
- Non‑SDK users: If you’re calling the SOAP API directly (without using an SDK), please update your implementation to use the REST API URLs and request format instead. You can find the correct REST endpoints and request examples for each method in the API reference documentation.
If you aren’t currently using an SDK, this migration is a great opportunity to make the switch. This will streamline your move to REST and also make future updates much easier.
If your integration is complex and you need additional time, contact your account team or Microsoft Advertising support to discuss an extended migration plan. These support channels can also help you throughout the migration process.
We value your partnership and appreciate your trust in Microsoft Advertising. We’re excited about the capabilities the REST API unlocks and are committed to supporting a smooth transition.
