Microsoft Advertising Editor is better than ever!

With Microsoft Advertising Editor, we’re committed to helping you achieve more with your business by solving challenges in a quicker, easier, and more powerful way. Your feedback and ideas help us shape the product into a simple, intuitive desktop application that we all love to use! We hope these improvements help you accomplish a lot more and take your campaigns to the next level, especially during this holiday season. Check out the exciting changes coming your way.

A new, modern design

We’ve redesigned the look and feel of Microsoft Advertising Editor for Windows and Mac. Aligning with the principles of Microsoft fluent, you’ll find that our visual refresh is simple, clean, and modern, while matching up with other Microsoft products. As you move between devices and platforms, we want to ensure that you have a seamless experience that’s intuitive. For example, we conscientiously designed elements of the menu, highlights, notifications, and grids to form a light and open interface that’s welcoming and easy to read right away. With the updated fonts, colors and spacing, we can draw your eye to important things that matter so you can focus on what you’re trying to achieve. We hope you enjoy this refreshed look for the Editor!

Recommendations

Finding the time to optimise all your campaigns effectively can be a real challenge. To simplify the process, we’ve harnessed the power of AI to automatically provide recommendations that will improve your bids, keywords, and ads, boosting the overall effectiveness of your campaigns. Our goal is to surface easy to understand insights in Editor, in a simple and actionable way.

This year, we’ve added 5 recommendations for you to implement. You’ll notice a helpful light bulb icon, a new notification we’ve introduced for this purpose to highlight actions you could take to make your serving campaigns perform better, such as improving bids or adding new and more effective keywords to your ad groups. In cases where your campaigns are at the risk of not serving, you can look for the familiar Warning notification instead. Not having enough budget or ad groups that don't have any ads or keywords are good examples of such situations. Whatever the issue, we’ve got you covered with the recommendations:

  •  Fix campaigns that are limited by budget
  •  Set estimated mainline bids
  •  Add new keywords
  •  Fix ad groups that don’t have any ads
  •  Fix ad groups that don’t have any keywords

Advanced search and filtering

We noted your feedback around needing a simpler and quicker way to search, to speed up your day-to-day tasks. We’re moving away from the pop-up dialog-based search requiring more clicks to a simple, well-understood search box where you can simply type and narrow down results. Looking for ads that are enabled with a specific URL? Type status, and filtered suggestions will automatically appear in a dropdown menu based on what you’re typing. You can continue to do basic text searches as before. With this change, we’re bringing both basic and advanced search into a single-entry point, so it's readily accessible, easy to use, and saves you time.

Filtering is in open beta right now. To join this beta, we encourage you to reach out to your account team. If you don’t have an account team, complete the filtering open beta form.

Undo/Redo

We’ve all accidently edited items we wished we hadn’t. You can now easily revert changed items back to the original state in which they were downloaded, as well as undo or redo your last action in Microsoft Advertising Editor. We hope this feature can help you edit your campaigns more efficiently and confidently.

Targeting via zip codes

You’re in full control of where your ads are shown with Microsoft Advertising location targeting. When you advertise strategically based on where your best customers are, you can boost your ad conversion rate and get a better ROI. Maybe you prefer to serve ads only to searchers in a specific area, or perhaps you need to run a test in one region before broadening your campaign. It's possible that you have a store in multiple locations and prefer to reach customers by specific zip code. You can now achieve this using Editor, and no longer need to rely on state-level targeting to help your business reach more customers.

Ad products and extensions

Generating the perfect ad copy can be challenging and time-consuming, yet reaching customers with the right message at the right time is essential to hitting your performance goals. Responsive search ads make creating and testing ads easier by automating the creation of your ad. We now have a powerful way for you create and manage responsive ads in bulk through Editor, so you can reduce the time needed to create multiple ad combinations and serve the right ad at the right time, resulting in overall improved ad performance. Responsive search ads are in open beta for our customers globally. To join this beta, we encourage you to reach out to your account team. Clicks on Price Extensions can link to your website or a preferred third-party storefront like Amazon. You can manage Price Extensions in bulk using Editor.

Accounts and security

We’ve facilitated improved security measures by enabling work account authentication. This offers businesses the ability to restrict sign-in only to work accounts that are authenticated by Azure Active Directory, Microsoft’s cloud-based identity and access management service. If you use AAD services and would like to benefit from these enhanced security measures in Editor, please reach out to your account team or complete the work account authentication form.

Performance

Editor is already a powerful tool to help you accomplish tasks in bulk, but we’ve added improvements that make your workflow even more efficient. You’ll notice a smoother upgrade experience, faster creation and updates, and quicker look-up of campaigns in the account tree that's coming soon!

Thank you!

As we wrap up 2019, which has certainly been exciting, we can't wait to hear more from you on what else you would like to see in Editor going forward. Would it be easier if you could manage multiple accounts together? Should we enable audiences at campaign-level? Would you like support for more extensions? These are just some of our ideas, but we'd love to hear yours. Please share your feedback in the Microsoft Advertising Feature Suggestions forum and don't forget to download the latest Editor for Windows and Mac to try new features from this year!
