Forecasting apparel searches and clicks for the UK in 2021

As you’ve probably noticed, the pandemic lockdowns changed many industries, one of which was retail. Online shopping is bigger than ever, and apparel searches and clicks are up +21% and +35% year over year (YoY) as a result. Microsoft Advertising Insights examined search trends for many apparel sub-categories, and used forecasting tools to estimate growth for the rest of 2021.

Most of the sub-categories we examined showed a growth trend for advertisers to consider. Some of the best performing sub-categories in 2020 were: pants and trousers, clothing, footwear and outwear. Looking at these growth patterns raised an important question: with these changes and growth in mind, what does the future hold for this industry?

The findings were positive. We expect overall apparel clicks to grow +27% YoY in the rest of 2021. But that’s not all! We also expect to see double-digit growth across almost all apparel sub-categories.
